SafCo Engineering has been awarded the engineering, design, fabrication, testing and supply of the FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM for the Neste Singapore Expansion Project of the world’s largest biodiesel plant opened in 2011

Neste will invest approximately €1.4 billion in the expansion of their renewable products refinery in Singapore and his target is to start up the new production line during the first half of 2022.

This expansion aims at meeting the growing global market demand for renewable products and low-carbon solutions in transport and cities, aviation, polymers and chemicals.

Neste Singapore NExBTL Plant

On 8 March 2011, Neste Oil opened the world’s largest biodiesel plant in Tuas Industrial Zone, western Singapore where the production process is based on Neste’s proprietary NEXBTL technology.

SafCo Engineering implemented the Engineering, Design, Procurement, Assembly, Test and Commissioning of the Fire Alarm and Detection System for this new and innovative biodiesel plant.

The Neste’s NEXBTL biodiesel is produced using recycle waste from the food industry such as animal fat, residues from vegetable oil processing and used cooking oil and it is more eco-friendly and efficient than conventional biodiesels and fossil fuels. It is free from oxygen, aromatics, sulphur and nitrogen and it is the world’s cleanest renewable diesel having up to 90% lower GHG emissions compared to conventional diesel over its life cycle.

Neste Singapore Expansion Project

On December 2018 Neste Oil announced its final investment decision on the expansion of its Singapore Renewable products plant and awarded the EPC management services to Technip FMC’s.

On July 2019 Neste held a foundation stone ceremony to officially mark the extension of the new production line.

As a result of the investment, Neste will have more options to choose between different product solutions in the whole production system. In addition to producing renewable diesel, all Neste’s renewable product refineries are able to produce renewable aviation fuel and raw materials for various polymers and chemicals materials. The investment in Singapore will include additional logistics capabilities and enhanced raw material pre-treatment for the use of increasingly low-quality waste and residue raw materials also for the existing refinery.

Fire Detection System for Neste Singapore Expansion Project

On February 2020 TechnipFMC awarded the FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM and relative devices  for Main / South and West Area of Neste Singapore Expansion Project to SafCo Engineering that was already involved in the same scope of work on the first plant started on 2011.

In SafCo Engineering main scope of work is the engineering, design, fabrication, testing and supply  of Fire&Gas Systems, Building Fire Detection and Alarming Systems and Fire Local Panels together with the different detectors devices: beacon/flashing light, flame detectors, buzzers, horn, manual call point hazardous area, smoke detectors.

With this expansion project Neste will increase its overall Singapore Refinery renewable products production by up to 1.3 million tons per year confirming its global leader position in renewable fuels for a healthier planet.
